Mercury Level in Fish and Cautions: A detail study about why to avoid HIgh-Level Mercury Fish

Most commonly fishes are good for health as per the studies and researches provided from scientists and health care providers. And when it comes for the high level mercury in fish it's advised not to consume those high level mercury containing fishes.

When the mercury level exceeds the level it affects the nervous system. And the causes the below effects,

  • muscle and joint pain
  • increased risk of heart attack
  • development delays in walking and talking of child's
  • numb or tingling fingers, lips and toes.

Fish high in mercury:


  • Shark
  • Swordfish (broadbill)
  • Marlin
  • Ray
  • Gemfish
  • Ling
  • Orange Roughy (Sea perch)
  • Southern Blue fin tuna
All these things are importance for pregnant women, nursing mothers, woman planning pregnancy and children upto six years.

Pregnant woman's are advised to not to consume more than one serve (150 g) per fortnight of marlin, shark or swordfish and no more fish for the rest of the week.
