Pomfret: Significance and health benefits

Pomfret Fish:

 Pomfret is one of the main fish groups in India. They are found every where in the tropical sea. Though the pomfret appear to be all along the coast of India. Butter fish, also known as pomfret or white pomfretfish, which is concerned healthy and deliciously tender when steamed or baked in the oven.



Selecting the fresh fish great skill for a seafood cooking. When going to buy a whole pomfret, look for bright and clear eyes. The eyes are the window to a truly fresh fish. In case of dull-eyed fish may be safe to eat, but they are past their prime. A fresh pomfret should smell like clean water.  In any kind of situation you should buy a nasty smelling fish. While buying pomfret fish fillets, look for a shiny skin which springs back after pressing. If there is liquid around the fish, it should be clear and not milky.

  • cold salads

An attaractive way of cooking pomfret in asian countries is cooking in banana leaves. Place the banana leaf-wrapped fish in a glass casserole dish  and then bake in a preheated oven at 375 temperature for 12-15 minutes
A stuffed
pomfret is common and it can also be baked with a mixture of melted margarine, Dijon mustard and mayonnaise
Country fried
pomfret and pomfret cutlets, soups, salads and stews are also popular.

If you caught the fish yourself by fishing, then you will have to store the fish in a refrigerator for a week to 10 days, in a bed of crushed ice. But a market-bought fish won't last that long.

  2.  Pomfret are excellent sources of protein that are low in fat.
  3.  As per the various studies, fishes even in small quantities, it can have a significant positive impact in improving the quality of dietary protein by complementing the essential amino acids that are often present in low quantities in vegetable-based diets. 
  4. Pomfret fish is high in Vitamin D. 
  5. It does actually contains minerals such as iron, zinc and calcium in it.
  6. The protein in fish is of high quality, which contains amino acids, and is very digestible.
